Volleyball Falls to FAU, 3-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to FAU in three sets Thursday evening by scores of 17-25, 24-26, 18-25. The Blue Raiders fall to 12-16 overall and 5-8 in the conference, while the Owls improve to 14-10 on the year and 8-5 in the league.
Senior Dora Peonia led the attacks with a total eight kills on the match and finished with 10 digs. Bri Tankesley held it down in the back row, finishing with 11 digs total, and she tallied two service aces. Taylor Hammill dished out 23 assists, and she recorded four kills and four digs on the night.
Set-By-Set
The Blue Raiders took a quick 3-1 lead to start set one. FAU went on a 2-0 run to tie it up 3-3, but back-to-back kills from Amalie Jorgensen and Kayla Henley helped MT to a 5-3 lead. MT held on to the lead until the Owls tied it up at 13-13 with a service ace. FAU then went on a 2-0 run to take the lead, and eventually claimed the set, 25-17.
In set two, FAU took a 3-1 lead before the Blue Raiders tied it up at 4-4. MT then went on a 3-0 run to take a 7-4 lead with a few FAU errors and a kill from Jorgensen. MT held on to the lead until the Owls tied it up one more time at 22-22, and then continued to take the lead. The teams battled point-for-point, but the Owls took the set 26-24 with a kill.
MT scored the first point of set three with a kill from Urte Neimantaite, and then a kill from Mikaela Weidmann gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead. MT had the lead until FAU made it a tied set at 7-7. The Blue Raiders took the lead once again at 10-9 with a service ace from Tankesley, but the Owls tied it up once again and took back the lead. FAU claimed the set, 25-18 and the match.
Team Notes
- Dora Peonia has led the team attacks on 14 occasions and has recorded 13 double-doubles on the season. She also recorded a career-high 23 kills against Marshall, and a career-high .636 hitting percentage against UT Martin.
- Urte Neimantaite tallied a career-high 19 kills on two occasions, against Tennessee Tech and Marshall. She has one double-double on the season and has led the team attacks on nine occasions.
- Neimantaite is ranked 10th in the conference for her average 3.23 kills per set.
- Taylor Hammill recorded her 2,000th career-assist against Marshall on October 11. She has also recorded 12 double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked third in the conference for her 10.08 assists per set.
- Hammill recorded a season-high 52 assists on two occasions and a season-high 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley recorded her 1,000th dig against UT Martin on October 22. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 26 digs against Marshall.
- Tankesley is also ranked eighth in the conference for her average 3.72 digs per set, and is second on the team in service aces with 23 total.
- Amalie Jorgensen nearly doubled her career-high blocks against North Texas, finishing with 11 total on the match.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton leads the team in service aces with 24 total on the year.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 91.0 total, and is third on the team in service aces with 21.
