PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Middle Tennessee was unable to close the gap on some of the nation's top teams in the final round of the White Sands Invitational Sunday, posting a 4-over par round to finish the weekend at 2-over par (279-295-292=866).
Head Coach Mark McEntire's squad posted another solid round across the board with no individual shooting worse than 2-over par, but like round two they failed to put together the low rounds they saw in round one.
"It was another solid day for us across the board, we just needed some more low numbers to put ourselves in contention," McEntire said. "I am very pleased again with the consistent play we had throughout the lineup today."
Senior Tanner Owens logged a Top 25 finish at the Ocean Club Golf Course, using a 1-under par 71 to finish the week at 3-under par (68-74-71=213) with two more rounds of par or better bringing his total for the fall to nine in 13 rounds.
Freshman Steven Haremski, playing as an individual, logged the second best finish for the Blue Raiders, finishing the week with an even par 72 to post a 54-hole total of 1-over par (71-74-72=217).
Junior Ilari Saulo turned in a 2-over par scorecard (68-76-74=218) for the week and finished just ahead of teammates Michael Barnard and Mattias Varjun, each posting 3-over par 54-hole scorecards.
Sophomore Palmer Sadlowski rouneded turned in a 9-over par performance, but was much more impressive in rounds two and three with scores of 73 and 74 after round one struggles.
"Another great tournament for Tanner this week, and Steven showed us a lot in a talented field as well," McEntire added. "We proved to ourselves this week that we can compete with anyone in the country on any given day.
"We're not all the way there yet, but we have a lot of positive momentum right now that we hope to carry over to the spring."
Middle Tennessee returns to the course in February, opening the spring slate at another University of Houston tournament in the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.
