MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee sophomore guard Anastasia Hayes has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week after three sterling performances at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
Hayes was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament team after averaging 17 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the three games against two Power 5 foes and nationally-ranked Gonzaga. She was the only player named to the all-tournament team who was not in the championship game.
Hayes tallied double figures scoring in each game, including 20 points each against No. 21 Gonzaga and Arizona State. The sophomore guard scored 13 of her 20 in the second half against Arizona State to help the Lady Raiders rally from a 12-point third-quarter deficit and take a one-point lead with 1:01 remaining.
Hayes was equally solid against Gonzaga as she poured in 20 points and added five rebounds. Her 20 points represented almost half of Middle Tennessee's 50 points.
