MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the final weekend before entering the first edition of Conference USA Bonus Play, Middle Tennessee men's basketball hits the road for a crucial and challenging road trip to face WKU and Marshall.
The Blue Raiders were on a roll in league play with wins in five of their last seven before a heartbreaking home loss to first place Old Dominion last Saturday.
MT has seen drastic improvements over that span culminating in a season low nine turnovers Saturday against the Monarchs, but an off shooting night despite well-executed offense led to a 5-point loss for the Blue Raiders.
The Blue Raiders and rival Hilltoppers will be facing off for the 137th time in the history of the series, making it the fourth most played series in program history.
Despite a Topper-heave series record, the Blue Raiders have had great success of late with three consecutive wins in Bowling Green and 13 of the last 15 overall meetings going MT's way.
The Hilltoppers boast multiple weapons on offense, but NBA Draft hopeful Charles Bassey and his 14.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per outing will perhaps be the most important for MT to slow in order to have success.
After Thursday's tilt, the Raiders make the bus trip over to Huntington, W. Va., for a midday game at defending C-USA tournament champion Marshall on Saturday.
Middle Tennessee holds an 11-5 advantage over the Herd all-time and are 7-3 in the series since joining Conference USA, but dropped both contests against Marshall a season ago.
The Herd continues, as it has for the entirety of their four-year careers, to rely on stalwarts Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks. The senior duo forms one of the best backcourts in the league with a combined 37.9 points per outing.
Middle Tennessee's Thursday contest at WKU tips at 7:00 p.m. CT with Saturday's game at Marshall tipping at 1:00 p.m. CT. Both contests will be broadcast by CBS Sports Network and streamed live on Facebook.
