MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — For Middle Tennessee State University senior guard Tre Green, basketball has always been more than a game. It's been a thread woven through his life, his family, and the person he's become.
Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, Tre was surrounded by a household where athleticism was second nature. The son of Calvin and Maureen Green, and one of six siblings, Tre recalls a childhood defined by constant motion, laughter, and competition.
"We were always outside playing sports," he says. "Every day until the streetlights came on."
In the Green family, the love of sports wasn't just encouraged, it was inherited. His sister Rain Green, a standout athlete in her own right, played college basketball at VCU, UMKC, and SEMO. Tre and Rain shared a particularly close bond; one strengthened by their shared passion for basketball. Their connection helped shape Tre's work ethic, nurturing the fire that would one day make him a crucial part of the MTSU Men's Basketball team. His younger brothers share that same passion, creating a family-wide devotion to the game.
When Tre received a scholarship offer from MTSU during the COVID-19 pandemic, he was a high school student who was just thankful for the opportunity to play the sport he loved. The moment was unforgettable.
"I knew MTSU felt like home," he says.
From day one, he felt the connection with a program that values family just as much as he does. Head Coach Nick McDevitt and the entire coaching staff welcomed him with open arms by guidance and mentorship by challenging him to become the best version of himself both on and off the court.
While excelling on the court, Tre has pushed himself academically as well. Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, he chose a field that would create real opportunities. Something that would benefit not only him, but his family.
Off the court, Tre has another arena where he shines. From streaming to posting videos on YouTube and TikTok, Tre has built a massive online following through his gaming skills on the NBA 2K26 game. His signature gaming moments have earned him viral status, with more than 500,000 followers on TikTok captivated by his energy and humor.
It's another passion that lets him connect with people, share joy, and show a different side of who he is.
Across his years as a Blue Raider, Tre's favorite part hasn't just been the games, the crowds, or the wins. It's the brotherhood with his past and present teammates who have all worn the blue and white. It's about the people he has shared the court with and the lifelong friendships he'll always have.
"This team right here never gives up," Tre says with pride. "We are so mentally tough. We are so strong together, and it's hard to break us apart."
From the kid shooting hoops in Baltimore until the streetlights flickered on to the senior guard inspiring teammates and fans in Murfreesboro, Tre carries with him the values his family instilled and the community that embraced him.
