Shot 6-under in Blue Raider debut
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Just four weeks after taking part in his first practice as a Blue Raider, sophomore men's golfer Cooper Sears has been named Conference USA Male Golfer of the Week for his outstanding performance at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational.
The Vanderbilt transfer fired matching rounds of 3-under par 69 to earn co-champion honors at Sunbrook Golf Club with a 36-hole total of 6-under par 138.
His sterling two-round total ranks as the fourth best 36-hole total in Middle Tennessee history while his two rounds of 69 are two of the three lowest rounds of the season for the Blue Raiders.
Sears finished the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational as one of only 12 players to finish the tournament under par, one of only three players to shoot under par in both rounds and the only golfer in the field of 71 to shoot in the 60s in both rounds.
The Mount Juliet native led the Blue Raiders to their two lowest team scores of the season and a 36-hole total of 3-under par 573, the second best 36-hole team total in program history.
Sears and the Blue Raiders are back in action this Sunday as they tee off in the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club.
