MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - Middle Tennessee (6-7) scored the most runs in any game this season on Saturday morning in a big, 14-3 win over Siena (1-2) in the Madeira Beach Invitational.
The teams stayed even early with neither team able to stay ahead for long. Lani Rodriguez doubled as the game's third batter and Jocelynn De La Cruz followed with a double of her own to give MT a 1-0 lead. The Saints evened the score in the bottom of the first when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
MT reclaimed the lead on a Summer Burgess single in the top of the second inning, but again, Siena responded just an inning later. In the bottom of the third, Sabrina Vargas picked up her second RBI of the game with a double down the left field line to even the score at two.
With two on in the fourth inning, Sydney Heath sent a double out to right center that cleared the bases and put the Blue Raiders out in front, 4-2. An inning later, Lexi Cushing's solo home run was followed by an RBI double from Hailey Bosley and Burgess' second RBI single of the day that brought Bosley home and pushed the MT lead to 7-2.
A Siena home run in the sixth inning got them a run back, but the Blue Raiders doubled their run total in the seventh inning with seven runs on six hits, including doubles from Keely McGee and another from Bosley.
