Blue Raiders Lose a Tough Match to Furman

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – In the fourth straight match at home, Middle Tennessee falls to a tough Furman squad 5-2 Saturday morning.
After the Paladins clinched the win early on, Luisa Zirilli and Lee Barnard battled to the last game to put the Blue Raiders on the board. Zirilli on court six fought hard and came out on top for her third straight win in a straight set tiebreaker to give MT their first point. Following that up, L. Barnard used a third set tiebreaker to give the Blue Raiders it's second and last point, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Middle Tennessee opened Saturday's match against Furman by taking the first doubles match easily 6-2 on court two with Zirilli and Kim Kermet. The Paladins soon after would finish the other doubles in simultaneous order claiming the doubles point.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders fell quickly early on as Furman clinched the win after winning three consecutive singles matches in straight sets. Lidia Burrows battled in a tenacious match where it went into a third set tiebreaker where she would fall 10-7 giving the Paladins their fifth point.
