MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After going 1-2 in the rain soaked Mule Mix Classic, the Blue Raiders are set to take on Tennessee Tech and Tennessee in midweek action.
Scouting Tennessee Tech: The Golden Eagles are travelling to Murfreesboro for the first time in two seasons. Both Middle Tennessee and Tennessee Tech will be fighting to stay above .500 as both teams have been up and down early in the year. While the hitting hasn't been as hot for the Golden Eagles so far this season, their pitching has been solid. Their team ERA sits just under five, but batters are hitting just .238 against them.
Scouting Tennessee: MT comes into the week as the 2nd best team in the nation in terms of ERA (0.80). The #1 team? Tennessee. The Vols have allowed just five earned runs through their first seven games for a 0.57 ERA. Their key is keeping batters from reaching base. They allow just 3.8 hits per game, and have walked only 12 batters on the season, all while averaging 12.7 K/9.
On the other end, the Vols haven't had any trouble scoring runs. They average just over seven runs per game. Leading the way is Evan Russell, who leads the team in b/avg, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, and total bases. This will be the most potent offense the Blue Raiders have faced early in the season.
What's next? Middle Tennessee travels to Memphis for a three game series beginning on Friday, March 1. Last season, the Blue Raiders went 1-2 versus the Tigers.
