Blue Raiders drop pitchers duel to UT
2/27/2019 6:41:00 PM | Baseball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– The Blue Raiders found themselves on the losing end of a pitchers' duel Wednesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Middle Tennessee (4-4) made their first road trip of the season to face in-state rival Tennessee (9-0), but couldn't get in an offensive groove on their way to 2-0 loss.
"I thought Keenan pitched well," Head coach Jim Toman said. "But they did a good job of hitting with two strikes."
RHP Zach Keenan got the unexpected start but produced expected numbers. The sophomore went six innings, allowing just one unearned run in the first inning. Keenan also allowed just one walk, his first of the season after going 17.1 innings without allowing one.
On the other side, Camden Sewell was just as impressive for the Vols. The freshman made the most of his first career start, going six innings, striking out five Blue Raiders and allowing just one hit.
Right-hander Scheldon Paulk came in relief of Keenan. The Guyton, Ga. native went 1.2 innings allowing two hits and one run.
What's Next?
The Blue Raiders travel to Memphis for a three-game series. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
