Men's Tennis Splits Monday Matches

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After falling to Wichita State in a 4-3 nail-biter Monday at Adams Tennis Complex, Middle Tennessee responded strong in the night cap of the doubleheader by sweeping North Alabama 7-0.

The Blue Raiders bounced back from its doubles loss earlier in the day by taking the point against the Lions.
The team of Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha was the first off the courts with a decisive 6-2 score at No. 3. Senior Jacob Pugh and freshman Pavel Motl then earned MT the early 1-0 lead with a 6-4 victory.
With the doubles point locked up, the Blue Raiders took all six single matches in straight sets to earn a dominant team win.
WSU 4, MT 3
Middle Tennessee fought to the final match with Wichita State in the first half of the doubleheader, but the Blue Raiders dropped a 4-3 decision to the Shockers.
Wichita State grabbed the first point in the match by claiming doubles wins on courts one and two, with MT top doubles partners Tom Moonen and Chris Edge conceiting a point on a close match, 7-5, and Stijn Slump and Daniel Stormon losing 6-0. Rauch and Rocha won their match at No. 3 doubles 6-3.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders knotted the score with a win from Rocha at No. 6, a decisive 6-2, 6-2. After the Shockers took the lead again 3-1 with a win at No. 1, Edge earned a two-set win on court four and Motl battled back to force a three-set win on court five to tie the score up at 3-3.
The match came down to court three, where Rauch tried to make it two wins in the match against Wichita State's Marius Frosa. Rauch fell in the first set 7-5, then took the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-6) before falling 6-1 in the deciding third set, giving the Shockers a 4-3 victory.

The Blue Raiders will continue their home stand as they play host to Vanderbilt Friday at 5 p.m. It will be the 41st meeting all-time against the Commodores, and Vanderbilt leads 30-10 in the all-time series, winning the last 11 matchups.
