STARKVILLE, Miss. - Middle Tennessee Softball lost in the first of two games with Stephen F. Austin on Saturday by a score of 7-1. The game was the final contest for both teams in the round-robin phase of the Bulldog Kickoff Classic.

Claire Smith pushed MT out to an early lead in the second inning. After hitting a two-out single, Smith stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. When the catcher attempted to pick her off of third base, the throw sailed wide and Smith came home to gave the Blue Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

But the Ladyjacks proceeded to take their lead in the next frame. Alex Hedspeth brought home a run with a double and later scored herself on a sacrifice bunt to give SFA a 2-1 lead. Hedspeth played a big part in the win for SFA as she finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.

After their two run third, the Ladyjacks added another run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Kassidy Wilbur (2-0) pitched the full seven innings and earned the win for SFA. The only run that crossed was unearned and she allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out six.

Corrina Dodd (0-1) took the loss for MT, pitching five innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits, no walks, and one strikeout.

News & Notes

Lani Rodriguez led all MT hitters in going 2-for-3 and is 4-for-8 through the first three games.
Summer Burgess is 7-for-11 this season and currently holds the team's highest batting average (.636).
With the appearance of Gretchen Mead in the game, all six of the Blue Raiders' pitchers have registered an appearance.
