STARKVILLE, Miss. - In the bottom of the seventh, Stephen F. Austin's Alex Hedspeth doubled off the left field wall to bring home the winning run in a 2-1 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night.

Hedspeth drove in both of SFA's runs, with her RBI double in the seventh following her RBI triple in the fifth inning. This all after she went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the first game against MT earlier on Saturday.

After Hedspeth's triple gave the Ladyjacks the lead, the Blue Raiders responded to tie the game in the sixth inning. With a runner on second and two away, Smith sent a ball up the middle of the field to score the run and bring the score even at one.

The Ladyjacks would have retaken the lead in the bottom of the sixth when they had a runner on second and two out. A ground ball similar to Smith's went up the middle, but Kirstyn Cuccia fielded the ball and made a quick throw to the plate that was in time to get the runner.

Kassidy Wilbur (3-0) picked up her second win of the day for SFA. She pitched one hitless inning and struck out two.

Kailey Ahlstrom (0-2) took the loss for MT, working two thirds of an inning and allowing one run on three hits.

News & Notes

Sarah Pinkston made her first career start in this game and allowed just one run through five and two thirds innings and struck out three.
Lani Rodriguez reached base three times in this game, with a hit and two walks. She finished Saturday leading all MT hitters by going 3-for-4 and is 5-for-9 through the first four games.
Rodriguez is now tied with Summer Burgess for MT's highest batting average so far (.500)
