FRISCO, Texas – Middle Tennessee men's basketball opens up Conference USA Championship week Wednesday at The Ford Center at The Star with its third meeting of the season against UAB.
The Blue Raiders, who enter the tournament after back-to-back wins against UTEP despite missing starting point guard Donovan Sims, have gotten the best of the Blazers twice already this season.
Middle Tennessee defended its home court against the then first place Blazers on Jan. 30 with a 71-65 win that was sealed late by a dagger 3-pointer from Sims.
The Murfreesboro product then knocked in the game-winning free throws three days later when MT went on the road for a 79-78 win at Bartow Arena.
While the Blue Raiders have been without Sims, C-USA Newcomer of the Year and All-Conference Third Team selection Antonio Green has paved the way with 17.7 points per outing over the three-game span.
Middle Tennessee will count on the play of posts Karl Gamble, James Hawthorne and Reggie Scurry to counteract UAB big men Makhtar Gueye and Lewis Sullivan.
Limiting Green's fellow All-C-USA Third Team selection Zack Bryant, however, will be key for MT to come away with a season sweep. Bryant averages 14.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game for the Blazers.
Middle Tennessee and UAB are set to tip at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
