MURFREESBORO, Tenn.– Middle Tennessee women's tennis, led by first year head coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall, has signed four talented student-athletes to join the team in 2019.
"I am excited and looking forward to our incoming freshmen joining our Blue Raider family this fall." Coach Tayo added, "Our graduating seniors compete in doubles and the top of the singles line-up, and our goal was to bring in players who could potentially contribute in their current positions. I believe our four fall recruits have the talent, skill, and work ethic to help us continue to compete at a high level and achieve our program goals."
Zoe Klapman is one of those four talented student-athletes who will be joining the Blue Raider family in the fall, and she hails from Northbrook, Illinois. She was coached by Jimmy Doessel at Northbrook Racquet Club and was ranked as high as No. 164 in 2018 by TennisRecruiting.net. The Illinois native is the 12th best recruit coming out of the state. Outside of tennis she is an AP Scholar Distinction Award winner and holds one gold and two bronze medals for the National French Exam.
"Zoe Klapman has excelled greatly in the classroom while also taking a 'student to the game' approach to tennis." Head coach also continued saying, "I appreciate her ability to analyze her game, while being able to make quick adjustments during matches and also being driven to the practice court for continuous improvements."
Muskan Gupta will also join the Blue Raiders in fall 2019 from New Delhi, India. She comes in with consistent play and was coached by Vivek Shokeer, Gupta is a three-time Sports Person of the Year in tennis from 2016-2018. She also excels in the classroom as she is a co-scholastic awardee and is in the top of her class.
"Muskan Gupta, is a very thorough student-athlete who, I'm sure, will excel both in the classroom and on the tennis court." The head coach added. " Muskan's game style is very steady and precise, which is very important at the college level and I know she will be a great asset to our program."
Noelle Mauro is another soon-to-be Blue Raider that is expected to make an impact in her first year on campus. The Marietta, Georgia native is a two-time state champion at American Heritage HS in Florida and also won state as a junior at Walton HS. Mauro comes in with a lot of successful experience.
"Noelle Mauro is a strong student and player. I believe she has the ability to compete with high level players and I am sure she will be able to hold her own when we compete against the top teams in the nation and in conference.," Coach Tayo said of Noelle.
The last signee in the 2019 class, Love-Star Alexis hails from Haiti but goes to school in Montverde, Florida. Alexis was named the tennis team MVP in 2018 for Montverde Academy that is coached by Jaime Oncins. In 2018, Love-Star Alexis did not lose one match.
"Love-Star Alexis, is a great kid all around. Her leadership qualities, great work ethic, and affinity to my style of coaching will suit well for our program and the growth of our team culture." Coach Tayo said about the last signee.
In her first recruiting season, Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall pulled out a quality recruiting class with diversity in leadership and talent. She has put an emphasis on athletes who will compete on the courts but also will be successful in the classroom most importantly.
Coach Tayo finished, "I have enjoyed my first recruiting season here at MTSU, and I am looking forward to working with each of our incoming freshmen. Blue Raiders have more great years on the horizon."
