MT earns win over No. 48 Ole Miss
AWENDAW, S.C. – A final round of 5-over par 293 saw the Blue Raiders slip past defending champion Ole Miss on the final day of the Hootie at Bulls Bay on Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee turned in a 16-over par (289-298-293=880) score on the week in the challenging field at Bulls Bay Golf Club to earn a win over the Top 50 ranked Rebels.
"This week we just had a hard time putting four rounds together," head coach Mark McEntire said. "We see that we have a solid team but we have not been able to put it together yet. When it happens I think we will be really good."
Senior Marcus Byrd carded an impressive 3-under par 69 on the final day to finish the week at even par (70-77-69=216) and inside the Top 30.
"We got a great round today from Marcus," McEntire stated. "He had a rough second round that kept him from a fantastic tournament."
Freshman Palmer Sadlowski turned in a solid performance of his own on the week, finishing 5-over par (221) with consistent rounds of 74, 73 and 74 at Bulls Bay.
"I was really happy with Palmer this week," McEntire added. "I thought he played very well and made some great strides."
Sophomore Cooper Sears logged a 5-over 77 in round three after a strong showing in the first two rounds, finishing one stroke back of Sadlowski for the tournament at 6-over par (72-73-77=222).
Junior Tanner Owens turned in his best round of the week Tuesday with a 1-over par 73 and finished at 10-over par (78-75-73=226) while senior James Beckner rounded out the Blue Raider lineup in South Carolina at 14-over par (73-79-78=230).
With its trip to the Palmetto State now concluded, Middle Tennessee returns to Murfreesboro with its next event just 10 days away.
The Blue Raiders stay close to home next week as they tee off Friday, April 5, in the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
