EL PASO, Texas – With a Conference USA Tournament berth already in hand, Middle Tennessee men's basketball looks to regain some momentum Wednesday at UTEP after a tough loss at Rice in which the Blue Raiders were without sophomore point guard Donovan Sims.
Middle Tennessee and UTEP will be meeting for the second time this season and will make it a third time on Saturday when the Miners return to Murfreesboro where the Raiders handed them a 75-72 loss in January.
Freshman point guard Junior Farquhar performed admirably in the absence of Sims, collecting nine points, eight rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes of action.
The rookie will need a similar outing Wednesday to support leading scorer Antonio Green (18.3) and the rest of the Blue Raiders should Sims remain unavailable, although the coaching staff remains hopeful that Sims could return.
UTEP has been missing a key player of their own as of late as freshman Efe Odigie, Conference USA's only player to average a double-double on the season at 12.7 points and 10.1 rebounds, has missed the last two outings due to injury.
Fellow freshman Jordan Lathon has exploded in Odigie's absence, however, posting 32 points and 18 rebounds against Rice and added 25 more points Sunday at Charlotte.
The Blue Raiders hold a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series after the win earlier this season with their last loss to UTEP coming at the Don Haskins Center in 2017. MT is winless all-time in just two trips to El Paso.
Middle Tennessee and UTEP are set to tip at 8:00 p.m. CT with the contest set to stream live on C-USA TV.
