HOUSTON – Middle Tennessee (15-23, 9-7) couldn't get into a groove offensively as the Owls (16-23, 7-9) used a big third inning to down the Blue Raiders, 10-4.
The Owls used six hits and a streak of six batters reaching base to plate eight runs in the third inning to bust the series opener wide open.
Matt Canterino got the start for the Owls. The junior right-hander gave the Blue Raiders everything he had, going seven innings, giving up just three hits and striking out 10 MT hitters on his way to picking up the victory.
Grant Williams came in relief of starter Carson Lester and was able to quiet the Owl bats. Williams finished his night going three innings, giving up just two hits and striking out a couple. Andy Rivera made his third appearance of the season, going an inning and striking out a pair.
In his first game back from injury, Brett Stratinsky went 1-for-2, picking up a base hit in the top of the ninth inning. He would score when Brycen Thomas ripped a base hit up the middle.
Tanner Parker and Darien Prewett led the Blue Raiders offensively, going 2-for-4 and driving in a run each. Blake Benefield led off the ninth inning with a solo home run, his team leading ninth of the season.
