HOUSTON – Middle Tennessee (15-24, 9-8) struggled offensively for the second night in a row as Rice (17-23, 8-9) took game two of the series by a final of 7-2 on Friday night.
Rice starter Evan Kravetz put together the best start of his career against the Blue Raiders. The tall lefty went seven innings, giving up just one hit and striking out a career-high 13 batters.
Darien Prewett was the only Blue Raider hitter to find success against Kravetz, picking up a pair of walks and reaching base on a two-out double in the third inning.
Peyton Wigginton got the start for MT and cruised through the first three innings, but back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning broke the scoreless game. Rice would put up five runs in the fifth inning to give themselves a seven run lead.
Josh Young had success working out of the bullpen, going 1.1 innings of no hit work. John Dowless went two innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.
The Blue Raiders would score in the top of the ninth on a Myles Christian RBI double to right-center field. Brycen Thomas would follow on an RBI single to drive in Christian.
What's Next?
The Blue Raiders will look to avoid the sweep against Rice tomorrow at noon.
