Raiders Fall on Senior Day to Marshall

Murfreesboro, Tenn.- The Middle Tennessee softball team lost the final game of their three game series to Marshall. The Raiders (25-24, C-USA 9-11) were shut out on Senior Day by the Thundering Herd's (31-17, C-USA 14-7) ace pitcher Abigail Tolbert.
Tolbert picked up all three wins in the Raiders' series against the Herd. Tolbert didn't allow a run all series, shutting out the Raiders in 16 innings. The West Virginia native collected her 20th win of the season in game three and finish with three strikeouts, allowed four hits, one walk, and hit one Raider batter.
Prior to first pitch, the Raiders honored seniors Deja Portillo, Kirstyn Cuccia, and manager Brandon Hill. This was the last game the senior's would play at Blue Raider Field in their amateur careers.
Freshmen Kailey Ahlstrom made her second start of the series, and pitched back-to-back scoreless innings in the first and second.
The Raiders kept the game within striking distance before a Herd RBI single by Mya Stevenson in the sixth, and a solo home run by Sierra Huerta in the seventh pushed the lead to 5-0.
In the bottom of the seventh the Raiders threatened after Lexi Cushing was hit by a pitch and Kirstyn Cuccia doubled to right center field with one out in the inning. The Raiders went on to strand those runners, and end the game with a score of 5-0.
Ahlstrom pitched all seven innings for the Raiders, allowing four earned runs, on six hits, walked eight, and punched out two.
On Saturday the Raiders will kick off their final series of the season with a doubleheader against North Texas, beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT. The series finale will be Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
