Round 2 Results
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After a solid 2-under par round to open the Mason Rudolph Championship on Friday, Middle Tennessee dropped off slightly on day two with a 2-over par 286 to fall to the 11th spot.
The Blue Raiders now sit at even par (282-286=568) through 36 holes and are within five strokes of six other teams, including No. 45 Northwestern (-2) and No. 41 Marquette (-5).
Sophomore Cooper Sears turned in the best round of the day for MT, carding a 2-under par 69 to move up five spots into a tie for 13th at 4-under (69-69=138) on the week.
"We got another great round today from Cooper," head coach Mark McEntire said. "I was very pleased with the way he maintained his composure in the middle of the round after making 3 bogies in a row. He had a nice finish and is leading the way for us."
Joining him in the Top 20 is junior Tanner Owens, whose 2-over par 73 dropped him outside of the Top 10 into a tie for 19th after a stellar 67 on Friday.
Senior Marcus Byrd fired an even par 71 Saturday and slides up three spots into a tie for 24th, giving MT three golfers in the Top 25 in a stacked field.
Freshman Palmer Sadlowski showed solid improvement on day two, shaving three strokes from his first round score to match Owens with a 2-over par 73.
Senior James Beckner turned in a 6-over par 77 Saturday and will look to bounce back on Sunday during the final 18 at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
"I really feel that we are close to putting it all together," McEntire added. "Eleventh place is not an indication of where we are as a team right now. I just want to see what would happen if this team clicked! I hope it happens tomorrow."
With impending weather in the area on Sunday, tee times will switch to an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with the Blue Raiders going off of holes 9-12.
Middle Tennessee will play alongside Northwestern (-2), ETSU (-2) and Georgia Southern (+3) during round three.
