The Blue Raiders will face North Texas in the first game of the losers bracket.
Birmingham, Ala.- The Middle Tennessee softball team fell to Louisiana Tech in the quarter finals of the C-USA Tournament. The Raiders (29-27, C-USA 11-13) could only muster two hits against the Techsters (42-14, C-USA 19-5) losing 10-0.
After an eight hour rain delay, Kailey Ahlstrom made her third start of the tournament for the Raiders. The freshmen pitched the first 17 innings of the conference tournament, before turning the ball over to Corrina Dodd in the fourth inning. Ahlstrom pitched three innings, allowed four runs, on eight hits, and three walks along with her first loss of the postseason.
The Techsters scored first on a two-run home run off the bat of C-USA Player of the Year Jazlyn Crowder in the bottom of the first inning. Louisiana Tech extended their lead to 3-0, on a deep sac fly in the bottom of the third.
The game was blown wide open in the bottom of the fourth when the Techster struck for seven runs on five hits in the inning. The Techsters 10-0 lead proved too much for the Raiders and fell in five.
Kirstyn Cuccia and Claire Smith were the only Raiders to collect hits in the five inning run rule and left four runners stranded on base.
Dodd pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed six runs, on four hits, and two walks. Freshmen Gretchen Mead got the final out of the bottom of the fourth four the Raiders after hitting a Techster batter. Both Dodd and Mead made their postseason debut in the loss to Louisiana Tech.
Although the Raiders lost tonight, they still aren't eliminated from the conference tournament. The Raiders will play North Texas tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. CT in the first game of the losers bracket. The winner of that game will play the loser of Marshall/Louisiana Tech.
