MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association has released its 2019 list of All-American Scholars, with the Blue Raiders boasting a program record-tying four honorees for the first time since 2009 while tallying multiple honorees for the sixth consecutive season.
To be named an All-American Scholar, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 or better GPA, have high moral character and participate in at least half of their team's competitions in the current season in order to be named an All-American Scholar.
Middle Tennessee's Sophie Burks, Jenna Burris, Catherine Caudill and Hanley Long each made the cut, with Burris and Long going a perfect 4-for-4 in their careers while sophomore Burks was named to the list for the second time. MT's younger Caudill, a freshman in 2019, is being honored for the first time.
Middle Tennessee also totaled four honorees in the 2008 and 2009 seasons and boasted three per year in each of the last three seasons. The Blue Raiders' four honorees matched Charlotte, Florida Atlantic and Marshall for the most in Conference USA.
"It takes a lot of dedication to excel in both academics and athletics at the collegiate level, but these four have proven that they have the work ethic to be highly successful in both areas," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "It is great for our program to continue its tradition of having some of the very best student-athletes in Conference USA and I am so proud that their hard work continues to pay off."
Long, Conference USA's Player of the Year and MT's first ever Academic All-American, concluded her collegiate career with a perfect 4.0 GPA in communications while her longtime squad mate, Burris, also posted a 4.0 in her first year of graduate school.
Burks holds a 3.89 GPA at the end of her sophomore season while Caudill posted a 3.59 GPA in her rookie campaign with the Blue Raiders.
