MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Advanced pitchers and elite prospects have been invited to learn from Middle Tennessee softball's players and coaching staff this fall, as Blue Raider Head Coach Jeff Breeden announced the fall camp schedule on Thursday.
"We'll be going at it with a pretty high pace, just like a practice would be for us," said Breeden. "Our kids will go through some drills with them, and we'll get to coach them up in game-like situations."
Advanced pitchers are invited to work with the Blue Raiders on Aug. 31 from 1-4 p.m. The camp will be open to 8-12 graders at a cost of $100. Campers will be expected to have an advanced knowledge of the game and must be playing on a high-level summer travel team. Pitchers will need to bring their own catcher. Catchers must bring their own gear, and they will not receive any catcher instruction at this camp.
Campers will have the opportunity to learn from Pitching Coach Tony Foti and his staff that combined for 25 complete games — including seven shutouts — and a combined ERA of 3.82 last season. Returning to the circle for the 2020 campaign will be ERA leader Amber Baldwin (2.77), innings pitched leader Kailey Ahlstrom (146.2) and wins leader Corrina Dodd (12-9).
On Sept. 1 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., MT will host an Advanced Elite Prospects Camp at a cost of $200 per participant. Players will be expected to bring their own gear as well as an advanced knowledge base of the game. This is not a beginner or high school instructional camp, and participants must be playing on a high-level summer travel team.
Assistant Coach Chelsea Hawkins will work with the advanced hitters and infielders. Hawkins' Blue Raider offense returns last year's leader in hitting percentage — Summer Burgess (.340) — and stolen bases — Sydney Heath (18) — as well as career home runs leader Lexi Cushing (34).
"Any time our girls have the opportunity to teach skills that they use every day in what they do, it just reinforces what we're telling them. They also get the chance to see a different perspective of that player-coach interaction," Breeden added.
Both camps will take place at the MTSU Softball Field. For more information and to register, visit www.MTSUSoftballCamps.com.
