Raiders Suffer First Loss of Season to Rival

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee (3-1-0) suffered its first loss of the season Sunday night falling 1-0 to their rival Western Kentucky (1-1-1). The lone goal of the match came in the 32' minute after Junior forward Ashley Leonard put away a ball in the left upper corner coming off an assist from Ansley Cate.
It wasn't because of a lack of opportunity that the Blue Raiders were shut out, seeing that they outshot the Lady Toppers 19-10. Senior Amber Hoot led Middle Tennessee with five shots in total, followed by Carolin Engelhard and Hannah Tillett who each registered three shots.
Senior goalkeeper Sydney Chalcraft also turned in a fine performance totaling four saves and was key part in distributing the ball out of the Raider's defensive third.
The biggest moment for the Blue Raiders came during the 68' minute off a counter attack initiated by Peyton DePriest. DePriest was able to break down the left sideline and release a cross that found Amber Hoot at the top of the box who then laid it off to Hannah Tillett for a shot that just skimmed the crossbar.
The Blue Raiders also dominated in the possession game, having the ball more than 60% of the time. Quick combo passes and good spacing led to Middle's possession game, however it would not be enough for the Raiders to overcome the deficit.
RECORD WATCH
Junior forward Peyton DePriest is now tied for 5th all-time in program history with 29 career goals scored. She is just ten goals shy of breaking the all-time record which is currently held by Holly Grogan with 38 goals scored. Be sure to continue watching as DePriest tries to make some history.
NEXT UP
The Blue Raiders will travel away from home for their next match-up against the Samford Bulldogs in Birmingham, Alabama. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. CT.
