BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team outshot Samford 16-13 on Thursday night, but was held scoreless as the Bulldogs defeated the Blue Raiders 3-0 at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
"This was a tough road loss for us," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "We fell behind two goals in the first 12 minutes and was chasing the game from that point on. I was pleased with our second half performance and the effort we showed to get back in the game. We now need to rest and get ready for a tough UT Martin team on Sunday."
Samford (2-1-2, 0-0-0 SoCon) put the Blue Raiders in an early 1-0 hole just four minutes into the contest as Alyssa Frazier scored to put the Bulldogs up early.
The Bulldogs added two insurance goals quickly after that in the 12th minute and the 22nd minute to give Samford the comfortable lead. Middle Tennessee (3-2-0, 0-0-0 C-USA) had nine shots on goal compared to Samford's five with none able to hit the back of the net.
The Raiders leading shot taker was midfielder Amber Hoot who fired four shots with one on goal, while freshman MacKenzie Bonham shot three, all on goal.
