Volleyball Travels to Evansville for Dunn Hospitality Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team is on the road for the third straight weekend, traveling to the University of Evansville for the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. The Blue Raiders take on Eastern Illinois, Evansville and Purdue Fort Wayne within a two-day span.
Thunderbird Classic Recap
Last weekend, the Blue Raiders traveled to Cedar City, Utah for the Thunderbird Classic hosted by Southern Utah. They went 0-3 on the weekend after dropping matches to Boise State (1-3), host Southern Utah (0-3) and Saint Mary's (1-3).
Dora Peonia tallied her second double-double on the season in the four-set match against Boise State with 10 kills and 10 digs. Also against Boise State, Urte Neimantaite led the team in attacks for the third time this season, finishing with 16 kills. Taylor Hammill totaled 83 assists on the weekend and eight kills, and she had a season high five kills against Boise State. Senior Bri Tankesley recorded 39 digs on the weekend, and 15 of those were against host Southern Utah.
Scouting the Opponents
Eastern Illinois
The Panthers come into the tournament with a 0-6 overall record after dropping all three matches last weekend in the Central Michigan Chippewa Invitational in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. They fell to both Central Michigan and UIC in three sets, and North Dakota State in five sets.
The last time the Blue Raiders and Panthers matched-up was in 1999. The two teams played twice that season and Eastern Illinois claimed both matches 3-0.
Evansville
The Evansville Purple Aces are 2-2 on the season after defeating the Tennessee State Tigers 3-0 on Tuesday. After their first two matches of the season in Puerto Rico were cancelled due to the threat of Hurricane Dorian, the Purple Aces traveled the following weekend to Cape Girardeau, Missouri for the Redhawks Invitational. They went 1-2 on the weekend, dropping matches to Western Illinois, 2-3 and SEMO, 0-3, and claiming the match against Jackson State, 3-0.
In their last meeting in 2002, the Purple Aces defeated the Blue Raiders, 3-1 in the Lady Raider Tournament.
Purdue Fort Wayne
The Mastodons enter the tournament with a 2-5 overall record after dropping there last match on Tuesday to the IUPUI Jaguars, 3-1. Purdue Fort Wayne dropped the first set 25-20, but came back to take the second set 25-27. Sets three and four were nail biters, but the Jaguars came out on top. One player to watch is outside hitter Katie Crowe, who had 21 kills and 14 digs against IUPUI.
The last time the Blue Raiders faced the Mastodons was 2004 at the Miami Tournament in Oxford, Ohio, when Purdue Fort Wayne took the match in three sets.
