WILMINGTON, N.C. – Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders took their second road loss of 2019, falling to the UNCW Seahawks after three first-half goals. It was just the second time all year that Blue Raiders have allowed multiple goals in a single game. The Raiders drop to 3-4-0.
"We didn't defend well tonight and it cost us the game," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "We now have to regroup, tend to a few injuries and get ready for another tough match against College of Charleston."
UNCW (4-2-0, 0-0-0 CAA) held the Blue Raiders to only three shots in the first-half after the Seahawks built a 3-0 lead before the break.
The Seahawks added another insurance goal after the half to make it a 4-0 hole. Not even 30 seconds later, the Raiders got on the board by an UNCW own goal in the 73rd minute. Middle Tennessee had seven shots on goal compared to UNCW nine with none able to hit the back of the net for MT.
The Raiders leading shot taker was midfielder Carolin Engelhard who fired three shots with two on goal, while Amber Hoot and Maddison Falter earned shots of goal.
RECORD WATCH
Junior forward Peyton DePriest is now tied for 5th all-time in program history with 29 career goals scored. She is just ten goals shy of breaking the all-time record which is currently held by Holly Grogan with 38 goals scored. Be sure to continue watching as DePriest tries to make some history.
