MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-3-0) travel to the Battle by the Beach in Wilmington, N.C. for a pair of road matches as they face tournament host UNCW (3-2-0) on Friday and Charleston (2-2-0) on Sunday.
Both matches will be played at UNCW Soccer Stadium (3,000), first is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT versus UNCW and the Raiders finalize the road trip on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT against Charleston.
LOOKING BACK: TOUGH 0-2 WEEK
The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team outshot Samford 16-13 in the first match of the week, but was held scoreless as the Bulldogs defeated the Blue Raiders 3-0 at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
Recently, the Raiders suffered another crushing defeat, this one coming from in-state foe UT Martin. Sophomore midfielder Miya Lennon netted her first goal of the season, which brings her total to two for her career, but the Skyhawks scored two unanswered goals in the second half.
The first half was tightly contested by both teams, while there wasn't much offense to be played both teams stood strong in their defensive thirds especially Middle Tennessee who did not allow a single shot on goal.
Junior Carolin Engelhard nearly had the goal of the match midway through the first half, after blasting a set piece from 30 yards out that slammed against the crossbar.
Middle Tennessee struck first in the second half with Lennon's goal but was unable to capitalize on any other opportunities. The Skyhawks would go on to score two unanswered goals in the second half, with the last coming just seven minutes before the end of regulation.
