Volleyball Prepared to Host Charlotte in C-USA Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team will open up its Conference USA slate on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Gym, playing the Charlotte 49ers. The Blue Raiders are 6-8 on the season, while the 49ers are 9-7 overall.
The Blue Raiders went 3-1 last weekend after playing in the Golden Eagle Invitational at Tennessee Tech Friday and Saturday, and then played host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday afternoon in their first home match of the season.

Scouting the Opponent
The Charlotte 49ers went 2-1 in the Hokie Invitational last weekend in Blacksburg, Va., where they faced Arkansas State, Chattanooga and host Virginia Tech. The 49ers defeated both Chattanooga and Virginia Tech in three sets, but fell to Arkansas State in three.
The 49ers come to Murfreesboro from San Antonio, Texas where they faced UTSA on Friday and fell in three sets by scores of 20-25, 21-25, 20-25.
The team's offense is led by junior outside hitter Sydney Rowan who has recorded 199 kills in 15 matches, averaging about 3.83 kills per set. The 49er's defense is led by senior libero Yumi Garcia who has dished out 354 digs to average 6.81 digs per set. As a team, the 49ers lead the conference in digs and are second in the nation with 1016 total.

The all-time series between the Blue Raiders and 49ers is tied, 4-4 as well as matches played in Murfreesboro, 1-1. In their last meeting, Charlotte defeated MT in three sets at Charlotte.
