Second meeting between the Raiders and the Spartans
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team will open the 2020 season this Friday with a home opener against Michigan State. The match with the Spartans is slated for 5 p.m. start and the match will be played at the Adams Tennis Complex. All home tennis matches offer free admission and free parking.

Scouting the Spartans
- This is the second meeting between the Blue Raiders and the Spartans, last time out the Spartans won in a tight 4-3 contest in Murfreesboro in 2008.
- MSU already has a win under the belt. The Spartans claimed victory over Toledo 4-3 at home.
- Last spring, the Spartans went 6-21 and lost in the first round of the Big Ten Championship
- The Blue Raiders won the 2019 Conference USA title, first time since entering the C-USA in 2012.
- Middle Tennessee made an NCAA appearance for the first time since 2012.
- Head coach Jimmy Borendame enters his 10th season and has a record of 143-97 (.595)
- Three Blue Raiders enter the spring ranked in the ITA rankings. Chris Edge is ranked No. 76 in singles, while sophomore duo Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump are ranked No. 48 in doubles.
- The doubles team of Motl and Slump finished the fall winning the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, taking down ranked doubles in the semis. They advanced to the Oracle National Championship in California.
- The Blue Raiders competed in six collegiate tournaments in the fall and brought home hardware. Tom Moonen won the top singles championship bracket at the Louisville Invitational, Sean Presson swept the singles D bracket not dropping a single set, Motl and Slump defeated Lipscomb's Caffarena and Chaw for the ITA Ohio Valley Regional title.
