Perfect 6-0 start
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The undefeated Middle Tennessee men's tennis team overcame SEC foe Arkansas, 4-2, in their final match of the Razorback Invite on Sunday at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
"The boys have been working extremely hard and are very coachable," said head coach Jimmy Borendame. "They compete and make adjustments very well in the middle of competing."
Starting with doubles play, Blue Raiders struck first to claim the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
Senior duo of Max Rauch and Daniel Stormon notched their second win over the weekend taking down Arkansas' Manuel/Alonso, 6-2. The doubles clincher came from the hands of senior Tom Moonen and junior Chris Edge on court 2, 6-4.
In singles, the Raiders continued firing with No. 76 Chris Edge notching his sixth-straight win with a decisive 6-1, 6-2, victory over Alonso to up the lead to 2-0.
The Razorbacks respond with a win on court 2, cutting the lead 2-1.
Sophomore Francisco Rocha came in clutch with a big tiebreaking win in the first set, 7-6 (7-4). Rocha would cruise in the second set pushing the Raiders lead by defeating Manuel in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.
On court 4, Max Rauch battled hard but Razorback's Rousset cut the lead to 3-2.
With two courts remaining, senior Tom Moonen stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch performance. After notching the quick first set win, Razorback's Verboven responded and forced a match deciding third set. As anticipation stirred, Moonen conquered the moment and secured the win for the Raiders in tiebreak.
"This was a great weekend for us but we will take a break and get back to improving on Tuesday."
The Blue Raiders now sport a perfect 6-0 record and will return to action on Jan. 31 taking on Vanderbilt at the Currey Tennis Center.
