Raiders down Murray State in tight matches

MT overcame 3 three-setters to win 5-2
MURRAY, KY. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis defeated Murray State in the 38th meeting in the series, 5-2, on Thursday at the Bennie Purcell.
Starting the match steady, the Blue Raiders earned the first doubles victory with Lee Barnard and sister Zani Banard defeating Murray State duo Gharapoup/Muller on court 1, 6-1.
The Racers recovered on courts 2 and 3 to conquer the doubles point over the Raiders. Murray State took that 1-0 advantage into singles play.
Starting singles strong, senior Marta Peris Herrero defeated Murray State's Loncarevic, 6-3, in the first set followed by another strong showing in the second set holding Loncarevic to three points in the match. Herrero's victory earned the Raiders' first point of the match to tie the score 1-1.
Earning the Raiders second consecutive win on court 1, junior Zani Barnard battled against Murray State's Chang for a three set set victory, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
Advancing the Raiders' lead to 3-1, junior Lee Barnard competed on court 2 against S. Loncarevic, taking down the Racer 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Lidia Burrows took the court against Sharapoup on court 3 and quickly fell in the first set, 6-4. Burrows responded by taking the match, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the match for Middle Tennessee.
After the clinch, coaches decided to continue play on the remaining courts where freshman Muskan Gupta continued her tight matches by overcoming Muller, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
The Blue Raiders closed out the match against Murray State, 5-2, and next head hosts Ball State this Saturday with a 3-1 record.
