Raiders Face Tough Competition at Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. - The Middle Tennessee track and field teams saw six top-10 finishes on day one of the Indiana University Relays despite facing tough competition.
Esther Isa claimed the gold in the women's high jump clearing a distance of 1.78m, which is a new personal best. Akera Benton and Willington Wright both placed in the men's and women's long jump with Benton taking third (5.94m) and Wright seventh (6.94m).
Four Blue Raider women placed top-25 in the 200-meter dash. Ida Mensah led the team finishing 13th overall with a time of 25.12s, followed by Shawkia Iddrisu in 14th (25.13s), Cecilia Francis in 17th (25.54s) and Agnes Abrocquah in 21st (25.82s). Francis also finished seventh in the women's 60-meter dash prelims to qualify for semi-finals on Saturday. In the men's 200-meter, Matthew Stewart claimed 18th overall with a time of 22.66s.
Quanisha Marshall finished with a new personal best time of 1:35.11 in the women's 600-meter, claiming sixth place overall. Freshman Mercy Chepkurui shaved nearly five seconds off her personal best time in the 3,000-meter finishing second with a time of 10:01.37. Julia Jelagat finished 21st wth a time of 10:53.53.
The men's distance medley relay A team (Jacob Choge, Wright, Brian Rono, Kigen Chemadi) claimed fourth place overall in the event with a time of 9:37.85.
The Blue Raiders will continue competition tomorrow morning, starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
