Full Schedule
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In an offseason where scheduling games is more difficult than ever before, Head Men's Basketball Coach Nick McDevitt and his staff announced a full slate of 27 games for the 2020-21 season on Friday.
Middle Tennessee's schedule includes 14 games inside Murphy Center, with 10 more contests on the road and three more at a neutral site.
As announced on Wednesday, the Blue Raiders open the season at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., on Nov. 25-27.
MT plays Akron in the opener before facing off against either Abilene Christian or East Tennessee State on Thanksgiving Day. Their Friday opponent from the opposite side of the bracket will be Austin Peay, East Carolina, Indiana State or Omaha.
The Blue Raiders then host five of their next six at home to round out the non-conference schedule, with the first four of those all coming in Murfreesboro.
Middle Tennessee's home opener features long-time foe Murray State, as the two renew MT's most-played rivalry in program history. The teams will meet for the 143rd time on Dec. 2 as the Raiders look to deny the Racers a third consecutive win in the series, which dates back to the 1929-30 season.
Murphy Center then plays host to in-state opponent Chattanooga (Dec. 6) in another long-standing rivalry. The meeting between the Blue Raiders and Mocs will be the 58th in the series, with MT boasting six wins in the last seven contests dating back to 1987.
Another Chattanooga-based team makes its way up I-24 on Dec. 12 as Covenant College travels to Murfreesboro from Lookout Mountain.
On Dec. 16, Middle Tennessee hosts the fifth meeting of a six-game series against Ole Miss as the Blue Raiders hope to topple former coach Kermit Davis in Monte Hale Arena and break a 6-6 deadlock in the all-time series with the Rebels.
McDevitt's squad closes out the non-conference slate with back-to-back games against Bellarmine, which is currently in their first season competing in NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Sun conference. The first contest will take place in Louisville, KY on Dec. 19 before the Knights make the return trip to Murfreesboro on Dec. 22.
After concluding non-conference play with a chance to see what it's like playing the same opponent in consecutive outings, the Conference USA schedule opens with Middle Tennessee playing at Florida Atlantic on both Friday, Jan. 1 and Saturday, Jan. 2, as part of the league's new health and safety model implemented for 2020-21.
MT hosts FIU on Jan. 8 and 9 before hitting the road again for two games at Southern Miss on Jan. 15 and 16.
The Blue Raiders take their home floor against WKU twice in 2021, hosting the rival Hilltoppers for a weekend series on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24.
Middle Tennessee will face UAB in an in-season home-and-home series just as it has in the past, playing the Blazers in Murfreesboro on Jan. 28 before making the trip to Birmingham on Jan. 30.
As the calendar turns to February, the Blue Raiders finish out a stretch of five games at home in a six-game span with two contests against Charlotte on Feb. 5 and 6.
The rest of the month plays out with always tough road trips to Marshall (Feb. 12-13) and Old Dominion (Feb. 26-27) sandwiched around a homestand against LA Tech (Feb. 19-20).
All C-USA teams will have open dates on March 5-6 to accommodate potential cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Conference USA Championship returns to the Ford Center at The Star for the fourth season in a row on March 10-13.
