MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's soccer newcomer Sascha Nielsen has been selected as the nominee of the Sports Talent of the Year Award in Svendborg, Denmark.
The Sports Talent of the Year accolade is awarded to recognize the top sports performance of the previous year in Svendborg. Out of 60,000 citizens, Nielsen was selected as the nominee for this award.
"This is a really honorable award for me, and I am so proud to even be nominated," said Nielsen. "I was nominated among two other talented athletes who had made some great results, so it was a big surprise for me that I won. This really shows me that the hard work I put in my sport everyday pays off."
Nielsen will join the Blue Raiders in the fall of 2021 out of Aabyskov, Denmark and club Odense SK. She played in the best league in Denmark and was awarded player of the year in 2017 and 2018. For her club, Nielsen started every game for Odense Q in the senior league.
She played for the Danish U16 and U17 national team and played in the European qualifier in Israel in 2018. While playing for Odense Q, the team reached the quarterfinals at the Gothia Cup 2018.
Aston's Comments:
"This is a great honor for Sascha," said Rhoden. "Among the many qualities we liked about her were her work ethic and the accountability she takes for her own development as a player and person. Her values align with our core values so it's good to know those qualities played a part in her achieving this outstanding recognition."
