Tar Heels Out Last Raiders in Pitchers Duel

Chapel Hill N.C. – The Middle Tennessee baseball team fell to North Carolina 1-2 on a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Raiders (0-2, C-USA 0-0) were led on the mound by a tremendous performance from junior Peyton Wigginton.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by cleanup hitter Brycen Thomas. Thomas' lone RBI was enough cushion for Raider pitcher Peyton Wigginton through the majority of the game.
Wigginton kept the Tar Heel hitters in check, pitching 7.2 scoreless innings before giving up a solo home run that tied the game in the eighth inning. The Franklin native allowed a single run, on five hits, and struck out five Tar Heel batters before calling it a day.
MT committed no errors in today's pitchers duel, less than 24 hours after committing four in the series opener.
"Wigginton kept us in the game and our defense played pretty well," said Head Coach Jim Toman, "but that's a tough one to take there with two home runs in the eighth and the ninth."
The Blue Raiders will wrap up their series with the Tar Heels tomorrow at 12:00 PM CST, before returning to Murfreesboro and Reese Smith Jr. Field for the home opener against Bradley on Thursday.
