Mardi Gras Mambo ends in one-run loss

YOUNGSVILLE, La. — The third non-conference tournament of the 2020 season is behind Middle Tennessee, as the Mardi Gras Mambo ended in a comeback attempt that fell short against Houston Baptist.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 2, HOUSTON BAPTIST 3
» An over-achieving Houston Baptist team was picked to finish 10th in the Southland Conference but entered play on Saturday with an 8-6 record, including a win over last year's Conference USA champions, Louisiana Tech.
» The Huskies applied pressure immediately, as a walk, a single, and a walk loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first.
» A double to right center field two batters later cleared the bases and provided all of Houston Baptist's three runs.
» Summer Burgess started off MT's first at bat with a single and knocked the Blue Raiders' second base hit with her second single in the third inning.
» Freshman outfielder Kelci Hill was the only other Blue Raider with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a single up the middle in the fourth and sixth innings.
» Lexi Cushing put the Blue Raiders on the board in the fourth inning with a double to right field that scored Hill.
» Burgess's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to score a pinch-running Savannah Freeman was the only other Blue Raider run.
