MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball will play in front of a home crowd for the second time this season when Tennessee State drives down I-24 for a doubleheader Wednesday night.
Games 27-28: Middle Tennessee (13-13, 0-3 C-USA) vs. Tennessee State (7-9, 0-0 OVC)
» Wednesday, March 11, 2020 | 5 & 7 p.m. CST | Murfreesboro, Tenn.
About the Blue Raiders
» MT is looking to rebound after dropping the opening Conference USA series at Western Kentucky.
» Freshman Kaylee Richetto leads her team in batting average (.459), slugging percentage (.865) and on base percentage (.565), while classmate Kelci Hill is seventh in C-USA with 30 hits through five weeks of the season.
» Corner infielders Lexi Cushing (10 homers) and Jocelynn De La Cruz (eight homers) entered the week with the fifth-most homers as a duo in the nation.
» It's been a group effort in the circle for the Blue Raiders this year, as Amber Baldwin leads her team with five wins, while Mia Marinakis has the staff's best ERA (2.37).
» Sophomores Kailey Ahlstrom, Gretchen Mead and Corrina Dodd have all pitched double digit innings already as well.
» Record watch is in full effect this season, as Summer Burgess and Lexi Cushing inch closer towards capturing Blue Raider career records. Burgess is 26 hits shy of becoming MT's all-time hits leader, and Cushing now has a program-best 113 RBIs and 43 homers.
All-time vs. Tennessee State
» MT is 46-8 all-time against the Tigers and have won seven of the last eight matchups.
» The Blue Raiders hold a 23-2 advantage in the series in games played in Murfreesboro.
Scouting the Tigers
» Despite a 7-9 record, Tennessee State has close losses to No. 21 Mississippi State on its resume and has split the season series with Tulsa, who received a vote in last week's USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.
» Senior outfielder Patton Akers leads her team in batting average (.326) from the second spot in the lineup.
» Offensively, the Tigers score only three runs a game and have hit just four homers and stolen just five bases as a team this season.
» Sophomore Raven Loveless and redshirt senior Lauren Powell have both pitched 47 innings so far this season.
» Powell leads her team with a 2.53 ERA and 46 strikeouts.
» Individually, Akers leads the OVC in sacrifice hits, while Loveless leads TSU's league in saves.
Next Time Out
» The Blue Raiders will stay in Murfreesboro this weekend for a three-game set against Charlotte, MT's second C-USA opponent of the season.
