MIDDLE TENNESSEE 7, TENNESSEE STATE 2
» Middle Tennessee broke open the scoring by taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
» After falling behind by a score of 2-1 in the third inning, MT scored three times in the fourth inning.
» Gracie Kirby lined a pitch into right field for a two-RBI double, which gave the Blue Raiders a 3-2 advantage. Kirby's two-RBI hit was followed by a pair of RBI singles from Kaylyn Slatter and Lexi Cushing.
» Kirby paced the Blue Raiders offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs in what was her second career start.
» Mia Maranakis made her third start of the season, allowing just two runs on two hits.
» Gretchen Mead and Kailey Ahlstrom followed Maranakis in the circle, combining for four shutout innings to shut the door on the Tigers. Mead earned her first career win.
» Cushing extended her on-base streak to 12 games by collecting an RBI single in the fourth inning.
» Summer Burgess enjoyed a 2-for-4 evening with an RBI and two stolen bases. The multi-hit game was the ninth of the season for the Delray Beach, Florida native, and it was her third game with at least two stolen bases this season.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 5, TENNESSEE STATE 1
» Tennessee State opened the scoring in the second game with a solo homer that hit the left field foul pole, but it was the only Tiger run in game two.
» MT answered swiftly with two runs in the bottom of the first. Heads up baserunning mixed with a TSU error allowed Burgess to score, and Jocelynn De La Cruz scored Kelci Hill on a sacrifice fly.
» Sydney Heath and Brooke McClure scored in the fourth inning to extend the Blue Raider lead, with RBIs coming courtesy of Lani Rodriguez and Burgess.
» The final Blue Raider run came in the sixth inning, as Marinakis batted in Savannah Freeman, who slid in safely at the plate.
» Corrina Dodd had her best outing of the spring, striking out five and finished her first complete game of the season.
» A 2-for-4 showing for Burgess in game two was her 10th multi-hit game of the season.
QUOTES FROM THE BLUE RAIDERS
» Head Coach Jeff Breeden on redshirt freshman Gracie Kirby's three-RBI performance: "Gracie was not our [designated player] at the start of the year, but she's earned a chance at it and is doing a great job for us. She had great at bats at Western Kentucky last weekend, and she had them tonight. Three RBIs for her is big for her and for us as a team."
» Breeden on Corrina Dodd's pitching in game two: "Again, speaking of that depth on our roster, we need for her to keep pitching well. She pitched well tonight and threw her rise ball well, and she's got to keep going."
» Designated player Gracie Kirby on getting into the lineup: "I'm very grateful for the opportunity, and I knew when the time came that I was going to be able to do my job and that everybody behind me has my back."
» Kirby on the momentum she gets heading into a conference series after a three-RBI night: "Going into these games tonight, I knew it was going to be a lot different than the pitching we saw last weekend. Tonight's game gives me confidence, but I've just got to stay patient and relaxed going into the weekend."
