Raiders drop C-USA opener, 3-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Runs were at a premium in the Conference USA opener for Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky as both aces dueled for most of the game, but the Hilltoppers came away with a two-run win to take a series lead.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 1, WESTERN KENTUCKY 3
» Western Kentucky entered the first C-USA series of the season with a seven-game winning streak, tied with Marshall for the longest current streak.
» Amber Baldwin and WKU pitcher Kelsey Aikey went toe-to-toe for four innings, giving up a combined three hits and no runs in that stretch.
» Kaylee Richetto got the game's first hit, a single up the middle in the second inning.
» The Hilltoppers struck first with a two-out double in the fifth.
» The Blue Raiders quickly responded, scoring one and tying the game in the top of the sixth.
» Summer Burgess came around to score in the inning on a Sydney Heath bunt.
» Western Kentucky then scored two in the sixth with one out to take the game's final lead.
» Lani Rodriguez got MT's second hit with a leadoff single in the seventh inning, but the Blue Raiders couldn't come back from the late deficit.
