MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head Men's Golf Coach Mark McEntire announced the addition of Lipscomb transfer Connor McKay to the 2020-21 Blue Raider roster on Wednesday.
The seasoned veteran, a five-year member of the Bison program, brings invaluable experience to Murfreesboro where he joins a team that would have featured 11 freshmen and sophomores to just two upperclassmen prior to his arrival.
"I expect Connor to bring some good experience to our young team," McEntire stated. "He has plans to play golf at the next level and we plan to give him the tools he needs to make that happen."
A Knoxville native and Farragut High School alumnus, McKay remains in his home state where he has had a lot of success as an amateur and collegiate golfer.
The reigning champion of the Tennessee Match Play, McKay posted a 2019-20 stroke average of 74.4 in his first season back from an injury that sidelined him for the entire 2018-19 season. He boasted a Top 15 finish at MT's Intercollegiate at The Grove last October with a score of 1-over par (73-72=145).
McKay has also seen postseason success first hand, having been a member of the 2016-17 Bison squad that advanced out of the NCAA College Grove Regional, hosted by Middle Tennessee at The Grove, to reach the NCAA National Championship.
"I am very excited to have Connor joining the Blue Raider Golf family," McEntire exclaimed. "He had an outstanding career at Lipscomb and has also had a tremendous amateur career here in Tennessee."
With his bachelor's degree already in hand, McKay will have one season of eligibility at Middle Tennessee and will join fellow senior Tanner Owens by enrolling in graduate school.
"Together, Connor and Tanner will be strong leaders and ambassadors for our program next season and will continue to set a good example for our young guys."
