Round 2 Results
OOLTEWAH, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee sits in a tie for third place and is just three strokes out of the lead after 36 holes at the Scenic City Collegiate on Monday.
The Blue Raiders posted an opening round score of 11-over par 299 in the morning before shaving four strokes in the afternoon round to finish the day at The Honors Course at 18-over par (299-295=594).
"What a fantastic golf course," Head Coach Mark McEntire exclaimed. "It tests every part of your game and what a place it is for us to start the year at."
At 3-over par after a 2-under 70 in round two, Blue Raider senior Tanner Owens (77-70=147) continued the strong and consistent play he has been well known for the last two seasons.
Owens is joined in the Top 10 by a new face in blue and white as true freshman Owen Stamper made a splash in his collegiate debut with an even par 72 in the morning before finishing the day at 4-over par (72-76=148) and tied for eighth.
Michael Barnard logged a 1-over par 73 in the morning before dropping into a 14th place tie with a 77 in the afternoon while Cooper Sears fired an even par 72 in round two to climb nearly 20 spots up the leaderboard.
"I'm really happy with the start today," McEntire added. "I'm very proud of the round Owen posted this morning. A 72 in his first round of college golf was really good.
"We got great rounds from Tanner and Cooper this afternoon as well. They have put us in position with good rounds to have a chance to get a win."
Senior Connor McKay is two strokes back of Sears at 12-over par thru 36 holes in his Blue Raider debut while freshman Daniel Love finished his first day of collegiate golf at 19-over par.
Middle Tennessee will start Tuesday's final round with a 7:00 a.m. CT shotgun start as it looks to make up three strokes on tournament leaders UAB and Little Rock, both 15-over par.
"Our goal tomorrow is to shoot even par as a team, and hopefully that will give us a good chance to start the season off with a great team win."
Tuesday's final round will be streamed live from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN3 with coverage of the 18th hole at The Honors Course.
