Blue Raiders set for doubleheader against Tennessee State & Columbia State CC

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball is set for a Thursday doubleheader at Blue Raider Softball Field as they host the Tennessee State Tigers at 2:30 p.m., followed immediately by a clash against the Columbia State Community College Chargers at 6 p.m.
Tennessee State finished the 2021 season with a 9-33 overall record, and a 5-26 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. Anayah Baker-Rowell led the Tigers last season with a team-best 37 hits on 130 at-bats, while also knocking in a team-best 13 RBIs and tying for a team-high 13 runs scored in 41 contests. Meaghan Lewis led the team in batting average, hitting .363 and posting a team-best .462 on-base percentage. Kayli Mothershed hit a team-high four home runs, as well as finishing second at TSU with 11 RBIs in 40 games played. Raven Loveless and Lauren Powell shared a majority of the Tigers innings on the mound, pitching 96 and 92.1 innings, respectively. Powell threw a team-high 78 strikeouts, while giving up 127 hits in 22 appearances last season, while Loveless struck out 53 batters and allowed 98 hits over 19 appearances. Francys King led the Tigers in ERA with a team-low 3.38, with only 70 hits allowed and tallying 40 strikeouts in 17 appearances.
Columbia State finished a 2021 spring campaign that saw the Chargers go 24-23 overall, while finishing 16-16 in conference play. Hope Jones led the way for the Chargers, batting a .374 with a team-best 49 hits and 34 runs scored, while also knocking in 18 RBIs and hitting two home runs in 39 games. Jones also led the team with a .471 on-base percentage and tallied a team second-best eight stolen bases. Alyssa Brown finished second on the team with 46 hits, while knocking in a team-high 36 RBIs and tying for a team-second best six home runs over 39 games last season. Hannah ray led the Chargers on the mound with a team-low 7.17 ERA and recording a team-best 44 strikeouts, while allowing 121 hits in 24 appearances.
