Blue Raiders win battle with Rice

MT keeps the home match streak alive
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team won a tight battle, 4-3, against Conference USA foe Rice Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex, improving to the home win streak to 21.
With the match tied at 3-3, MT's Stijn Slump and Rice's Jacob Eskeland went to a third set to decide the winner. After a back-and-forth break battle, Slump and Eskeland were tied up at 4-4 when Slump battled on to win the final two points, clinching the match win for the Blue Raiders.
The junior from Havelte, Netherlands moves to 3-3 following Friday's win.
For the fourth-straight time this season, the Blue Raiders pulled out the doubles point as the Blue Raiders earned the point with close wins on courts two and three. MT took the early lead in doubles with a win on court two from Chris Edge and Tom Moonen who defeated Eskeland and AJ Valenty 7-5.
The Raiders powered through a Rice run on court three and picked up the clinching win from Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha 7-5 over Wes Barnett and Trinity Grear. Pavel Motl and Slump's match on court one was left unfinished, 6-6 (4-3).
Motl was the first Blue Raider off in singles, dispatching Grear 6-1, 6-1, pushing the lead to 2-0. Sumit Sarkar earned Rice's first point as he took down Moonen on court one 6-4, 6-2, cutting the Blue Raider lead to 2-1.
On court five, Rauch fell to Rice's Barnett in straight-sets 6-3, 6-4. With the match tied back up, Edge fell to Mohamed Abdel-Aziz 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 on court No. 4, pushing Rice in front.
The back-and-forth battle between the Blue Raiders and Owls continued on court three where Rocha earned his 13th singles win of the season, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 to Rice's Campbell Salmon.
That's when Slump came through for the Blue Raiders on court two, winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 over Eskeland.
