MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — For the first time in program history, Middle Tennessee will host a Power 5 team at Blue Raider Softball Field for a three-game weekend series, as the Blue Raiders and Georgia Tech announced Wednesday that the programs will meet this weekend, March 26-28.
First pitch times will be 5 p.m. CT Friday, 2 p.m. CT Saturday and noon on Sunday. Admission is free and capacity will be limited to 10%. Masks and social distancing are required at all times while inside the stadium. For those not able to attend, the games will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
MT originally did not have an opponent scheduled for this weekend after playing Jacksonville State on Wednesday afternoon. Georgia Tech was scheduled to visit North Carolina this weekend for its fifth ACC series of the season, but the Yellow Jackets made plans with the Blue Raiders after the Tar Heels postponed the series due to UNC's COVID-19 protocols.
The Blue Raiders and Yellow Jackets have played four times previously with both teams earning a pair of wins. MT won twice in the 1990s, and Georgia Tech evened the series with two wins in the 2000s. All four contests between the two teams have been close, as the average margin of victory is 1.25 runs.
