MURFREESBORO, Tenn – The Blue Raider men's tennis team put on another impressive performance at the Adam's Tennis Complex on Friday night, coming out with a huge win against SEC foe Vanderbilt. The victory marked the 25th consecutive home win for Middle Tennessee, and was the first time the Blue Raiders took down the Commodores since 2006 after VU had won 13 straight.
It was a hard fought battle from both sides, and things would get competitive early. The Blue Raiders got off to a productive start by taking the doubles point, thanks to victories from the pairs of Tom Moonen and Chris Edge; and Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump.
Edge would go onto have a big performance during the singles portion of the match; being the first one to earn a singles victory by defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-4.
The Commodores would make things interesting down the stretch by winning on courts one and five. The score would be 3-2 Middle Tennessee heading into the final two courts.
It would be a clutch third set from the junior Stijn Slump that would clinch the fourth and final point for Middle Tennessee. After losing the first set 3-6, Slump would come back and take the second set 6-4. After a back-and-forth final set, Slump would come out on top 7-5 and be dog-piled by his Blue Raider teammates as he gave them the 4-3 win.
