MT Evens Series at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee baseball team evened up the series against South Alabama with an, 8-2, win on Saturday, powered by timely hitting deep into the ballgame.
The Blue Raiders (6-3, C-USA 0-0) and the Jags (6-4, Sun Belt 0-0) matched each other inning-by-inning until the eighth where MT would bat 11 times and strike for six runs on four hits and one Jag error.
With the score knotted up, 2-2, sophomore JT Mabry led off the top of the eighth with a single through the left side of the infield. After three walks Mabry jogged home and broke the deadlock, 3-2.
Later in the inning, Knoxville native Jake Hagenow came up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Hagenow drove a 0-1 pitch off the right-center field wall to extend the Raider lead, 5-2.
Hagenow finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, and three RBI.
Not finished in the inning just yet, Luke Vinson reach on a Jag error that scored Brycen Thomas from third and brought Fausto Lopez to the dish. Lopez singled to center bringing in Hagenow and Vinson, setting the Raider lead at, 8-2.
Mabry came back for seconds in the inning, grabbing another single, this time to center field for his second hit of the inning. The Raider second baseman finished the game with a career high four hits and an RBI.
Blue Raider starting pitcher Peyton Wigginton pitched six innings, allowed two runs, and struck out three before handing the ball to Adam Link in the seventh.
Link picked up his first win of the 2021 campaign after a scoreless frame and a strikeout.
Senior David Zoz came in to shut the door on South Alabama, and ended the game with three punch outs in two innings of work.
The rubber match between these two teams will be tomorrow at 1 PM. After this series at South Alabama the Blue Raiders will return to the Reese of a midweek game against Austin Peay on Tuesday (3/9) at 3 PM.
