MOBILE, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee baseball team is off to it's best start through 10 games since 2015 after defeating South Alabama, 4-2, with a burst of power in extra innings. The Blue Raiders (7-3, C-USA 0-0) win their second game of the season in extra frames with today's a win against the Jags (6-5, Sun Belt 0-0) and a win against Bowling Green back on Feb. 26.
Junior right-hander Zach Keenan toed the rubber for the Blue Raiders to start the game. The Suwanee, Georgia native pitched six scoreless innings before allowing his first run of the 2021 season. Keenan left the game after 7.2 innings pitched, walked none, and struck out five along the way. Through 15.2 innings pitched this season Keenan has still not allowed a free pass.
In the bottom of the ninth inning the Jags were able to manufacture a run to tie the game, 2-2, and force extra innings.
Sophomore catcher Jake Hagenow led off the tenth inning with a double down the left field line, followed by a pinch hit double from Bryce Symlar to give MT a 3-2 lead. Symlar's clutch two-bagger marked his first hit as a Blue Raider.
Freshman Luke Vinson brought Symlar in from second with an RBI single stretching the Raider lead to 4-2.
David Zoz picked up the win in 1.1 innings pitched and Trent Siebert entered the game in the bottom of the tenth to pick up the save along with one strikeout.
The Blue Raiders will return home on Tuesday, March 9 to matchup against Austin Peay in the midweek, before meeting up with Valparaiso for a four game weekend series at Reese Smith Jr. Field. First pitch for Tuesday game against the Governors is set for 3 PM.
