MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — For the second time this season, Middle Tennessee's Corrina Dodd has been named Pitcher of the Week by Conference USA, the league announced Monday.
Dodd was one of many Blue Raiders that were instrumental in the 3-1 series victory over Western Kentucky, which received votes in last week's USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll and was picked to finish first in C-USA in the preseason.
The Trafford, Alabama native posted a 2-0 record in 15.1 innings pitched and a 0.91 ERA against the Hilltoppers. Dodd held opposing batters to a .163 average, and the only two runs she allowed were in the form of solo home runs in the series finale.
The right-hander started game one against the Hilltoppers and tossed six scoreless innings, retiring 12 consecutive batters at one point. Dodd came on in relief for game three and pitched 4.1 innings without surrendering a run in MT's 5-4 nine-inning win. She finished the weekend with 5.0 innings of work in the circle and kept her team in the game for the eventual 3-2 walk-off win in the seventh.
Dodd joins Marshall's Laney Jones and North Texas's Hope Trautwein as the only three pitchers in C-USA to receive this weekly honor twice in 2021. MT is the only team in C-USA to have two Pitcher of the Week and two Hitter of the Week awards this season. Summer Burgess (March 8) and Kelci Hill (April 12) represented the Blue Raiders as Hitters of the Week, while Dodd earned her first weekly award of the season on March 22.
MT stays in league play this weekend when it travels to Florida Atlantic for a four-game set starting at 5 p.m. CT on Friday. All four games can be seen on CUSA.tv.
